We finally crossed paths with the Fork In The Road food truck – we’d been curious since it was voted the number one gourmet food truck by The Daily City. They focus on chef inspired street food – and the menu that day was pretty eclectic from escargot puffs to shaved rib-eye with cheez beer whiz.
American Kobe Beef Corn Dog
I’m a sucker for a corn dog, I still buy the ones you microwave on a regular basis – you know the ones full of processed crap and high fructose corn syrup (don’t tell my doctor as I have a strict what he doesn’t know doesn’t affect my cholesterol policy). So needless to say I had to try out a Kobe Beef Corn Dog. I wasn’t disappointed – the breading was really light and crispy and had a great crunch and the hot dog on the inside was probably one of the best I’ve ever had moist and tasty with a nice bite (I’m really fighting the urge to put a Michael Scott that’s what she said joke here). In the picture you’ll see a sauce and I’m going to be honest I remember really liking it, but I don’t remember any of the flavors and I never went back to ask – so its a mystery.
Mangalitsa Pork, Pickled Ramp and Peaches, Heirloom Carrots and Spun Sweet Potatoes
The Mangalitsa Pork was a really great pork belly with these wonderful acidic pickled peaches and ramps on top. The pork was cooked perfectly and the fat was really rich. I had never had a pickled peach before but it was really very pleasant and the acidity that it brought cut the richness of the pork and balanced the whole thing out really well. Surprisingly (when peaches are on the plate) the heirloom carrots brought a sweetness to the party and a really great salty crunch came from the spun sweet potatoes.
White Truffle Fungi Fries
These were french fries tossed with a white truffle sauce. These were pretty good too – they weren’t tossed in the sauce evenly so some bites were overwhelmingly truffletastic and others were more salty. I’d compare it to eating fries smothered in gravy – some bites have softer almost soggy texture and others were more crunchy.
